Giorgio Cavazzano

Guest - Giorgio Cavazzano

Giorgio Cavazzano is one of the most renowned and innovative comic book artists in the world.
Born in Venice on October 19, 1947, he was only twelve years old when he began collaborating with his cousin, Luciano Capitanio, assisting him with inking. Still a teenager, he became an apprentice to Disney master Romano Scarpa and, at the age of fifteen, starting in December 1962, became his trusted inker.
In 1967, Cavazzano made his debut as a penciler for Topolino with the story Donald Duck and the Hammer Hiccup. Soon, Cavazzano began to develop an increasingly personal style that would lead to a rise in popularity among readers, marking a turning point in Disney comics. He created countless characters, including Reginella, Umperio Bogarto, Ok Quack, Rock Sassi, and Vincenzo Paperica.
Unforgettable are his Disney parodies inspired by great cinema, with stories such as Casablanca, La Strada, The True Story of Novecento, and The Duck Without a Past. In 2017, Topolino published a tribute to Hugo Pratt: Topo Maltese – A Ballad of the Salty Mouse.

The artist will be present in Lucca from October 31 to November 2.
