Fifty years ago Games Workshop was established. At that time the creators didn’t know that their company was ment to bring to life fiction universes capable of captivating entire generations of enthusiasts and influencing the pop culture beyond the game world. From Warhammer Fantasy to Warhammer 40.000, their works evolved over the past decades together with the game community, becoming a global phenomenon.
The exhibition aim is to celebrate this history through the dialogue between art and artifacts. On one hand there is the private collection of Alex Read, including works of great masters, such as John Blanche, Ian McCaig, Brian Bolland, Jim Burns, John Sibbick, Paul Bonner, Gary Chalk, Karl Kopinski and many others. On the other hand, there are the belongings of Ian Livingstone, cofounder of Games Workshop, pioneer of the game books genre and the key figure behind the global success of Tomb Raider.
Both Ian Livingstone and Ian McCaig will be present in Lucca and will meet their enthusiasts to explain how those imaginary worlds have become an integral part of the collective imagination.
Roberto di Meglio and Karl Kopinski have been chosen for the cure of the exhibition, under the supervision of Luca Bitonto.
